Your data stays with you
Bereitsein does not store any of your data – not on a server, not in a cloud. Everything you enter stays on this device only. And everything works without internet, too.
- We run no server for your data – there is nowhere we could store it.
- No account, no sign-up, no e-mail address.
- No tracking, no analytics, no cookies, no crash reports.
- No ads, no selling of data – Bereitsein is free software.
What is stored on your device
Bereitsein keeps this information only locally – in the app's or browser's storage on this device:
- Family plan: people, phone numbers, meeting points, routes, contacts
- Supplies, supplies list and shopping list
- Backpacks with contents and expiry dates
- Medical ID: blood type, allergies, medication
- “Where’s what” with photos
- Settings, selected districts, downloaded maps
To delete: uninstall the app or clear the site data in your browser – then everything is gone. A backup only exists if you save a backup file yourself.
Everything works offline
Once installed, Bereitsein needs no internet. Without a network, these keep working:
- all guides and checklists
- family plan, supplies, backpacks, shopping list
- emergency mode with emergency numbers and texts to your family
- SOS signal with LED and signal tone
- medical ID and “Where’s what”
- the map including your GPS location – once the region has been downloaded
- reminders on your phone
- sharing by QR code from phone to phone

When Bereitsein goes online
Only in these cases – and only when you trigger it. No personal data from your plan is transmitted:
- Downloading a map (OpenStreetMap data via Protomaps, elevation data for relief and contour lines from Mapterhorn) or the online map (OpenFreeMap, elevation data from Mapterhorn).
- Official warnings, if you have chosen districts: a request to the German federal warning system (warnung.bund.de) with the district code – when you open the app, every 15 minutes while it is open, and in the Android app, when notifications are on, also in the background about every 30 minutes.
- Address search on the map (OpenStreetMap Nominatim) – only when you press the button; the search text is sent.
- Links you open (Organic Maps, sources, recommended apps) – they open in your browser or the respective app.
- In the browser, the page itself loads once from the web server, like any website – after that it runs from the cache.
As with any connection, the service sees your IP address. Names, phone numbers, meeting points or medical data never leave your device.
Sharing only directly
When you share, you share directly: by invite link, by QR code from phone to phone, by text message from your messaging app or as a file through your phone’s share menu. Nothing goes through a server of ours – with an invite link the plan sits after the “#”, and browsers never send that part of a link to any server.
Open and verifiable
Bereitsein is free software (GPL-3.0). All of its source code is public – anyone can check that it works as described here.
